Book on Voicemail App

The Voicemail App

The Voicemail App allows you to record voicemail messages for your user. You get visual notifications for new messages in myApps and you can download or listen to messages using your Voicemail-App.

The configuration of your voicebox (e.g. personal greeting, pin) is done by a direct call to your voicebox.

In order to be able to use the app you need to give the user permission. This is done the same way as we did with other apps throughout the course, by using the Templates PBX plugin. In addition to the permission, PBX users need a voicemail license (included in the UC license) to be able to receive and listen to voicemail messages. Licenses can be distributed via the Templates PBX Plugin as well.

Similar to the Fax App, you must assign a free number in your dialplan to the Voicemail App. This means that all voicemails from each user will use this number as prefix. If you give your Voicemail App the number 8 for example and you have a user with extension 10 – the user voicemail number is 810. Only a voicemail message received on the 810 number will be displayed in the Voicemail -App of this user.

Before you can use it, you must adjust some settings in the PBX manager.

The PbxManager plugin called screenshot.png AP Voicemail EN will allow you screenshot.png the configuration of:
  • Name: The name of the Voicemail App. It must be unique in the system. It will be shown in myApps and should have an intuitive name (e.g. Voicemail En). Its value is preconfigured by Install, but can be change to fit customer requirements
  • SIP: This has no relevance for the user or admin. It is just used for PBX internal communication. You can use the preconfigured value but keep in mind that it has to be unique in the system
  • Number: Like the other values it has to be unique too and it is used as prefix for a users personal voicemail number
  • email notifications: This is a global parameter which allows every user to receive the voicemail as email. The voicemail app uses the SMTP parameter you configured during the install to distribute the email
In order that calls are forwarded to Voicemail, you need to configure either a call forward at the user (i.e. to the users VM number) or as a "global" destination for screenshot.png external calls to busy or not responding destination at the PBX Manager plugin Trunks.

You should be able to configure the pre-existing voicemail object which was created by the install with the following parameters:
  • Name: Voicemail en
  • SIP: voicemail-en
  • Number: 8
  • email notifications: On
Afterwards set a CFU at your user via myApps to 810 and call your user - 10 from Jean. You'll be forwarded to your voicemail. If you don't know how to set a CFU at your user object you might want to rewatch video2.png this video.

If you want to listen to your voicemails you need to call 810 from your phone and enter the PIN. In case you are wondering what's the default PIN, I'd recommend to read the next chapter. Alternatively you can also listen to the Voicemail on your PC, using your myApps Voicemail App. Or you login to your mail account and listen to the voicemail which you received as email notification.

Default PIN

It's important to know that the default PIN is 8765.

You should change it right away but at the moment there is no convenient way by using the Voicemail PBX Plugin. You need to screenshot.png go to the user interface of the device via the Devices app and append a $_defaultpin parameter of to the Voicemail-App URL:$_pbxmwidir=vm_files&$app=on&$_defaultpin=1234

If you feel lost at the moment and don't know where to change this URL you should readthe individual Device User Interface book at first.

The method above describes how the admin can change the default PIN. In addition to this, a user can configure his own PIN by calling his Voicemail and navigating through the DTMF-menu options.
