Problem Details

In rare cases, handset firmware of aforementioned DECT handsets may need to be upgraded. Unfortunately, upgrading is not always a trivial task, as there are various hardware and software flavors which need to be considered. Here is how it works

Obtaining the new Firmware

IP55, IP56

For the IP55 and IP56 (which are also known as Polycom 5020 and 5040, respectively), you can obtain the firmware from http://support.spectralink.com/faq/how-do-i-get-latest-software-kirk-handsets-andor-kirk-wireless-servers

IP50, IP52, IP54, IP64(Kirk 4080)

For these handsets (which are also known as Polycom 3040, 4020, 4040 and 4080, respectively), the available firmware builds as well as the detailed procedure to upgrade depends on a number of factors. For this reason, you must contact innovaphone support for an upgrade and provide the following information

  • handset type
  • software part number SW PCS (to find out press *99982* (MUTE))
  • hardware revision HW PCS (printed on the label underneath the battery)

Firmware upgrade from ver. 5 is :

6Ea-->6Rc

Here`s our procedure (this was tested on ip54 ):

  1. Check handset fw version with *99984* + Mute.
  2. Switch off the phone and place it in the cradle prepared for the update.
  3. Start the ServiceTools ver 4.18 and click the Communications tab.
  4. Select the Com port the cradle is connect to, choose the 4020/4040/4060 radio button and click on the Set Comport button.
Status bar should display PP Connected.
  1. Move to Download tab and click on the Load Flash button.
  2. Again, select Com port and click on PP 4020/4040/4080 1G8-1G9 radio button.
  3. Click the Program Flash button.
  4. When the alert message appears do the following:
if the phone is already switched off then lift it from the cradle for a couple of secs and put it back.
Red charging indicator must be off otherwise the fw upload will fail. If led stays on then try going back to point 5 and start again.

- If the phone is powered on then lift if from the cradle, switch it off and place it back.

  1. Select firmware file: select ver. 6Ea if upgrading from ver 5; select ver. 6Rc if upgrading from ver. 6Ea.
  2. When the 2nd alert message appear do what it says: click the hook button on the phone and then click Ok.
Keep holding the hook button until you see the "writing address" counter appearing in the installation log window section.
  1. when upload successfully completes (green text) send Default Commands to Handeset.
Beware, this will completely reset your phone (registrations, phone book entries, custom settings, startup text, etc).
  1. If you just loaded the fw ver. 6Ea then repeat points 8 to 12.
  2. If you want your phone to use a custom start up text then use the dedicated tab in the main ServiceTools window.
