Introduction

Some customer wants connect a supplementary external ringer on an IP-Phone set. This could be a classic “ringer”, but often also a siren (for example for external areas) or a flashing light (for example for noisy environments or for a just optical advisement without ringing). No innovaphone IP-Phone has a connector for an external ringer and there is no clear contact to connect a external device. Anyway it is possible to realize thus type of application, here is how.

More Information

An external ringer could be connected to a port of an analogue interface (IP21/29-x). Please note that the power and current of the AC during a call is limited. Therefore for powerful ringer you will need a clear contact and external power source. A clear contact can be easy reached connecting an AC relay to the analogue port. This relay will attract during the ring period and release during the pause. The contacts of the relay of course are clear, just check the limits in the technical specification of the relay. And so it is also obviously that any type of device can be switched on and off each time ringing voltage comes to the relay.

System Requirements

You will need one analogue port, a external ringer or device, and a AC relay in case of “non-ringing” devices. Of course this setup requires also one registration license in the PBX, the a/b license and a DSP-license. The DSP-license is necessary because a call to a device without resources can be terminated in advance.

Configuration

There are two possible options:

• if the IP-Phone rings also the external ringer should ringing

• the external ringer should ring just after a defined period. In this case also the IP-Phone should continuous to ring when the external device starts ringing.

The first case is easy, just give the analogue port the same number of the IP-Phone.

For the second case you have to define a call broadcast group. Give the call broadcast object a unused number and put IP-Phone and the analogue port in the call broadcast group. Than define a CFNR on the IP-Phone to this broadcast number. A incoming call will so first come to the IP-Phone, after the CFNR timeout the call went to the broadcast group number and all the members, and so again the IP-Phone, will ring.

Use the "twin phone" feature of the IP-Phone user object to prevent the ring on the external ringer during a call on the IP phone.

Known Problems

You will need a two wire connection from the analogue port to the external ringer or device. In case of a relay the connection will be from the analogue port to the relay and than from the clear contact to the external device. If the external device requires power you have to foreseen a supply.

Special for IP150

IP150 offers a direct connection of any external devices like ringers, horns or lamps by a embedded relay. The connection to the relay output is located under the keyboard panel. The voltage at this connector must not exceed 60 VDC or 30 VAC. The current of the relay contacts must be limited to 6 A. Please refer to the user manual that comes with the device.

Non-analogue Solutions

There are several vendors out there who have SIP enabled ringers. This is a SIP device that receives calls and just rings (and never takes the call). See a sample vendor here.
