Howto:Hearing Aid Compatibility

Once in a while, you will come across the requirement for hearing aid compatibility. This refers to the fact that many hearing aids can be switched to so-called 't-coil' mode. That is, the microphone is switched off and the audio signal is taken from the receivers magnetic field instead, thus eliminating all kind if background noise.

This however did not work when using old style telephones with carbon speakers. However, today's phones use normal speakers which create enough magnetic flux leakage so that they automatically provide a signal which can be picked up by the hearing aid. So to our knowledge, all our fixed-phone handsets are hearing aid compatible.

Phones using newer technologies such as e.g. piezo-electric receivers however may fail to provide proper signal. Also, wireless devices (cordless/mobile phones, wireless headsets, etc.) may create magnetic noise that interferes with hearing aids. There is no apparent European standard dealing with this.
