==Description==
Unified Messaging serves as a platform for all telecommunication services. Telephone/voice, answering machine, fax, SMS and WAP, Computer Telephony Integration (CTI), and fax polling, eMail, sending and sometimes even the good old telex are handled in a unified manner. This results in a single user interface the user is acquainted with and common logs with date, time of day, service, duration etc.

Many Unified Messaging users start with fax service and extend the system later.
* Microsoft Lync 2010 provides a single interface that unites voice communications, IM, and audio, video, and Web conferencing and integrate with other Microsoft applications like Office, Sharepoint and Exchange making this a single Unified Platform.

We therefore recommend a modular system such as caesar®. Those systems are flexible and future-proof and can be adapted to the respective user’s communication requirements.
* Provides to the user Application, PowerPoint and Desktop sharing features for a single conversation or conference call to improve the sharing of information and content.

caesar® Unified Messaging provides the following features:
* This system is interoperable and extensible, we can integrate with existing PBX systems using SIP Protocol or qualified gateways like innovaphone. Supports federation with public IM networks such as Windows Live, AOL, Yahoo and,through the XMPP Gateway, Google Talk.

* Connections with all established telephone systems (ISDN and IP) and telecommunication services.
* Provides an easy to use and powerful A/V Conference solution so users can schedule a meeting from Microsoft Outlook and join through Lync 2010 via the PC or Web Interface.

* Telecommunication integration for MS Exchange/Outlook, Lotus Notes/Domino, SAP R/3, Novel GroupWise.
* Regarding administration Microsoft Lync Server 2010 provides a set of tools to monitor, archiving, call recording, single point application provisioning,ACD/IVR creation with UCMA 3.0, QoS control, use of Active Directory for deployment of users and their permissions. Could be installed in a cluster scenario making possible software based load-balancing, automatic fail-over and draining.

* Open interfaces e.g. for LAN, UNIX, LINUX, AS/400, iSeries, HOST, HP Digital Sender fax terminals.

Unified Messaging means faster information flow, message processing, easier decision making, increasing productivity and optimized information management.

*'''Note:''' SIP Federation between Lync Server 2010 and Innovaphone PBX it's not possible since at Lync Server Federation is only supported using the Lync/Office Communicator client between Lync Server 2010/OCS 2007 R2 environments connected via Edge Servers using MTLS, is not designed to connect a Lync Server 2010 environment to a PBX, this is what Direct SIP is for. -->

GroupWare products such as Lotus/Notes/Domino, Novell GroupWise or MS Exchange are equipped with eMail interfaces. For other telecommunication services there are only insufficient or no interfaces at all.
==Summary==

caesar® bridges this gap utilizing all basic performance features with additional features, such as e.g. fax, voice, SMS, CTI. Due to user-friendly professional integration in Exchange/Outlook, GroupWise or Notes interfaces the user does not need to learn a special handling. Easy operating, automatic switching applying cost-efficient times and routes (LCR), receipt and editing directly at workstation reduce costs, increase efficiency and provide a quick amortization.
Test report of innovaphone PBX and Microsoft Lync Server 2010 according the '''Microsoft® Lync Server 2010 Open Interoperability (CS2010-OIP) IP PBX Program test plan'''.

== Competitive Analysis ==
The test were successful and all required tests were passed. As a result the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 is qualified as a [[Howto:What_is_a_%22recommended_product%22%3F#3rd_Party_PBX | Engineered Product]].

caesar® provides all performance features of a modern Unified Messaging system. The employment of special modules fulfills the requirement for high availability in cluster environment. caesar® is characterized by distinct integration features in any environment.
The '''optional''' test including call transfers using the SIP Refer-method were not passed, since innovaphone is not supporting using this method for call transfers. However this is just an optional test, call transfer are possible using another SIP Method supported by both systems. The user experience is not affected by this.

caesar® increases the telecommunication value of Groupware and mail systems such as Notes, Exchange or GroupWise. Since the end user does not need to leave his accustomed client for message processing, the training efforts for user and administrator are minimal. We must emphasize the one-hundred percent integration in Lotus Notes/Domino, MS Exchange/Outlook or Novell/GroupWise. This integration results in a total user administration in the address-book already implemented Groupware.

Other UMS providers often apply CTI software by subcontractors; the missing integration is disadvantageous.

caesar® CTI has been fully integrated in Notes respectively Exchange and can be administered there. The journals are filed in the groupware database.

With caesar®, the phone number of incoming calls are resolvable through each Notes/Exchange databases without having to adapt the database. The dialing can be done from any application (e.g. Word document or Internet page). The distribution of the CTI Client is performed by the Notes- (Exchange-) Client, all other functions will be administered centrally minimizing the so-called First Level Support.

Caesar CTI can be connected to all current telephone systems through Third Party TAPI or CSTA interface. V.24, LAN or ISDN interfaces are available as data circuits. For host applications, Caesar provides an Appli/Com file interface which can be realized easily.
==Contact==

A Caesar Host user working both at an IBM Host and with Lotus Notes (MS Exchange) can for instance create messages from the IBM Host to a fax addressee and send it via Caesar connector for Lotus Notes (MS Exchange). The message will be handled in Notes (Exchange) in the same way as if it had been originated in Notes (Exchange). The user can see whether the message has been transmitted successfully in the Notes (Exchange) journal.

For more than 35 years, CAE Elektronik GmbH has developed, manufactured, installed and maintained telecommunication solutions; ISO9001 has been certified.
